This Numbers to 20: Count, Read, Write, Order and Compare lesson workbook includes an example IEP goal, 110 step-by-step math lessons, reviews and assessments. This evidence-based math intervention is tied to kindergarten standards and is great for special education math goals and tier 2 small group math interventions (RTI).

This scripted lesson workbook is a systematic introduction to numbers and number relationships.  It covers rote counting, rational counting, number recognition and identification, writing numerals, number order, comparing quantities (more, bigger, larger, higher) and number relationships to 5, 10, and 20.

These sequential lessons are easy to teach, with enough material for 22 weeks of instruction!

Skills covered include:

• Rote counting to 29 (Start at 0 or 1 and count up)
• Counting pictures with one-to-one correspondence to 20 (How many?)
• Number identification (Say this number.)
• Writing numerals (Write the number ___.)
• Number order (Cut out the numbers and glue them in order.)
• Number order (What comes next/after? What comes before?)
• Make a teen number (Ten and more)
• Comparing quantities (Circle the number that is more/bigger/larger/higher.)
• Comparing quantities (Is there enough for everyone to have one?)
• Relationship to 5, 10, and 20 (How many steps to get from ___ to 10?)

These lessons are scripted—the text on each page is for the teacher to read aloud (unless it is in parenthesis).  Instead of using flashcards, the numbers are printed on the page for the teacher to point to.

## Students Will Be Able To:

• Count, identify numbers, and write numbers to 20
• Count objects/pictures with one-to-one correspondence to 20
• Given numbers in mixed order, place them in numerical order.
• Given two numbers, identify which one is more/bigger/larger/higher
• Say the number that comes before or after a given number within 20.

### Tied to These Kindergarten Math Standards:

• Count to 100 by ones and by tens. (CCSS K.CC.A.1)

• Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1). (CCSS K.CC.A.2)

• Write numbers from 0 to 20.  Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects). (CCSS K.CC.A.3)

• Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality. (CCSS K.CC.B.4)

• Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects. (CCSS K.CC.B.5)

• Compare two numbers between 1 and 10 presented as written numerals. (CCSS K.CC.C.7)
